SFFC ProgramStrong Foundation, Future Champion (SFFC) system is specially developed for young children aged 3 and above and is fast gaining recognition as a leader in aquatic education in Singapore. Excellent Singapore Sport Council accredited coaches and an outstanding training system create a winning combination. We insist that swimming lessons/classes are kept small, bearing the children’s safety in mind. These are two of the many important elements that ensure delivery of a results focus program that embraces both encouragement and fun.
Students going through our training program and will progress to the next stage only when they acquired the necessary skills. We believe in acknowledging accomplishment and Fastwaves Aquatic certificates reward the students’ achievements as they progress.
Our SFFC program provides a holistic learning experience for the children as swimming not only build up their confidence level, but physical strength and character building as well.
Our distinctive differences from others are such that we offer a complete aquatic education that includes swimming skills, emphasis on water safety and building water confidence.
Fastwaves is one of the pioneers to introduce swim program to pre-school. We have gained recognition and trust from numerous pre-school institutions thus they have adopted our SFFC program into their school program. Our track record speaks for itself. In 2006 alone, more than 300 children from various pre-school institutions benefited from our SFFC program, and that excludes hundreds who have enrolled for private lessons. Our program gear towards four fundamental areas of swimming education; Foundation, Development, Proficiency and Fulfill Potential. ![]() FoundationOrientation and familiarization of the swimming pool environment will be conducted. This includes water safety around the pool vicinities, the Dos and Don'ts, safe entries & exits in the pool. Children will also be guided on the proper usage of swimming aids such as the use of goggles, swimming caps. We fully comprehend the child's fear during the first lesson, new environment, a total stranger (swim mentor), and the first time in the pool without their parents. Our swim mentor will start to get acquaintances with the children and allowing them to be accustomed to him/her.
This is a crucial stage as it builds up water confidence in them.. Confidences are built up gradually through fun and play; children will learn to be accustomed to water before proceeding to learn the fundamental of swimming. After the fear of water has been overcome; the fundamental of swimming will be introduced. Floating in the water, controlled breathing technique and body balance using kick boards will gear the children toward the next phase of the course -"Stroke Development" DevelopmentWith a strong fundamental foundation, children will be trained on a specific swimming stroke -Breast Stroke training.
This stage is an extension of the fundamental stage. Skills learnt in the previous stage will be applied here. Children will be taught on the coordination of arms movement, legs movement, body movement and breathing. It is critical that each student is imparted with the correct breast stroke technique. If not corrected, it will be difficult to undo the incorrect technique in the future. We have to uphold our program objective, "Strong Foundation, Future Champion" Upon successful completion of this stage, the children can swim without aids for at least 50 metres. ProficiencyInitial phase of the Proficiency stage is to bring out what was learnt from the Development stage and applying them in deep water. Although the children have already acquired the basic skills, the fear of the deep end of the pool is common in children, as parents tend to "frighten" their children when they are young to protect them from straying into deep waters. Such traditional parental method of protecting their safety will be a major hindrance to their progress. Building the child's confidence is our utmost priority. ![]() ![]()
We will gradually build up their confidence in deep water environment but we do not encourage over confidence. We will continue to inculcate the importance of water safety to the children throughout the whole course. Besides confidence building, children will be put through a series of lap swimming to build up their stamina and strength to gear them towards the next phase. PotentialAfter months of training, the children are equipped with the basic swimming skills. It is time to prepare them for the National Survival Swimming Awards (NASSA). NASSA is adapted from the STA Survival Test (UK), introduced in Singapore in 1979. It is designed to educate and create awareness of basic water survival skills to ensure an individual's safety during an emergency. NASSA test simulates the sinking of a ship laden with passengers and goods. Examples are
Test the child's ability to escape 100 m from the "whirlpool"; that a sinking ship usually creates. Children are trained to make floats with their clothes in order to keep afloat while awaiting rescue. Ability to stay float with one injured limb / signal for help There are 4 levels of awards; Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold Star. Each awards simulates different scenario or events and requires different pass criteria. Our Swim mentors will train the children to fulfill the criteria of each award. When the child is fully competence of the NASSA test criteria, we will facilitate the booking of the test at Singapore Sport Council for him/her. Fastwaves will not conduct the test. The test is fully administrated by Singapore Sport Council. Test and will be conducted at any of the 28 Singapore Sport Council Swimming Complexes. |
